This is the build that was used by Leimrey, the Assault Class Tournament Winner for the tourny ending on April 23rd, 2013. He played "no less than 20 hours" over the course of the tournament but dolled out some serious damage.

Interesting. Compared with the 6 LL build it loses about 2 max DPS and gains 0.6 sustained, albeit at a couple KPH slower. Compared to my Cyan build, it has almost the same DPS, just slightly less sustained and slightly more max, but at greater range. I may switch my 5M to this build. Not sure if I like the 6xLL 3F/4N/5S variant better, though.

Is it the actual front/back armor repartition?

So I did 5xLL and 23 DHS on a 275 STD (because I had it) and for shiggles took off half a ton and added a BAP.

Are these fired at once or on a rotation or in different groupings.

Large lasers are already not optimal for alpha's because you spread the damage too much, not firing them all together (or maybe only 2 or 1 when near overheat), will spread the damage even more. I'd group then 1: left 2: right 3: middle so I can just press all buttons to fire everything and have specific groups for 'sniping' and certain sides, which is good when firing from cover and when being careful with heat.

I am absolutely loving this, though it did take me a bit to get used to it.

As for key groupings, best way that I have found to do it is put everything on chainfire for 1, and everything on normal for 2.

Right mouse is your "alpha" button, and the typical idea is to alpha 2-3 times (depending on the map and if you have been firing), then left mouse and just keep the heat up without over doing it. It takes a little getting used to, but its utterly lethal once you master keeping the heat in the 80-90 range without overheating. First few alphas will probably strip center core, and the sustain will pop them almost every time.

I prefer doing area-based groupings. Left click is left arm, right click is right arm, and then you can do alpha and/or CT-only for button 3 and/or 4 (I have alpha as B3 and CT as B4).

This build is actually really good. Melts through stuff in just a few alphas, maintains heat a lot better than my 6xPPC (2 of them ER) build on my 5S. Only on rare occasions do I do less than 300 damage in a round using this setup.

I run the same basic mech, but I swap down to a 275 and lose a heatsink to get an AMS.

If LRMs get buffed back up, I'll trade the BAP for AMS. As it is, both are kind of wasted tonnage, but I had a ton leftover so I figured "what the hay?"

I'm using this as the starting point for my BAP-buff build. I'm going to drop 2 larges down to mediums and remove 4 DHS and half ton of armor. That should let me get 5 SSRM2s and 5 tons of ammo. Not that 5xLL is bad, but I'm willing to downgrade to of them to pick up 5 streaks.

Alternatively, I could keep the armor, downgrade 3 LLs instead, and pick up the SSRMs/ammo and upgrade the engine to 300 STD.

Even though this build is my starting point, it is a new build and I will post when I get home. Lights...run in fear!

Just built this mech last night and had a great time with it, very hard to overheat with disciplined firing.

I had had HUGE success with this mech (the OP). With the coming changes to boating being talked about I wonder how viable this will be in the future unless you stagger your weapons fire but we will see. As it stands right now this is the only way to pilot a stalker and be sure that your weapons actually hit.

    5 Stars from me!

Actually, that's the irony. The LLas is brilliant at getting damage. PPCs are heavy and kill to cleanly. A 4PPC build can blow the head clean off any 'mech. 40dmg per kill isn't going to put you in the halls of the damage gods. Even if you gut an atlas, that's still only 100 damage per kill. Now, LLas--because they spread so much--you're much more likely to rank up more damage per kill.

Case-in point. My 4LLas Cataphract 3D reliably earns more CBills per match than my GaussMets. Simply because the GaussMets does the minimum damage necessary per kill.

With the heat stacking penalty introduced as part of the July 13 Patch I no longer consider this a 5 star build.

For me now it is a 2 out 5 build and has been dropped by my unit in 8 man drop decks.
