    Fellow Mechwarriors,

Tell me what you think about this build: my Hunting Spider - agile and deadly, tough a little bit flat on the chest.

    Thanks,
    Moe

Nice damage output, but the armour is only tissue paper thin, especially on the head, 2 medium lasers to the face and you are history.

better off shoehorning in a 255 than reworking the build around it, have to remember, with lights, speed is life, if your goal is to be hunting other lights with this, they will outrun you. There are even a couple of mediums, which pack a lot more armour and firepower that can go faster than you.

Hunting heavies and Assaults with this build is quite viable though, just don't get shot.

I'd put at least 6 armor on the left arm, that way it can soak a Dual Gauss hit without risking damage to the torso. I used to run my 5D with a single point of armor on the left arm, then skirbs set me straight. I found that the spiders arms are surprisingly good as shield arms.

I would run The7Sins loadout. Max armor, and all the upgrades.

Arch, true suggestion, ive tried it, my torso got no protection in left-side attacks, i should put armors to protect the torso

I realize this build is seriously old, but I've been running it lately, and it's still viable(just in a different way). Since lots of much faster, and more deadly, lights have been released since this, your goal is to stay near your team and just poke. Use the existence of your allies combined with your greater speed and accel/decel to avoid enemy attention and their return fire. It's just a force multiplier, but in Quick play, it works very well.

With the new heat changes, it can really pump out some DPS too.

    Here's what I'm running.

I find your lack of ECM disturbing

Also, due to recent changes to engine DHS behavior, engine's DHS cool as much as external DHS.

ECM: With the use case of this thing being in plain view, by shedding attention to larger team mates via superior agility and size profile(people just tend to ignore it), the lack of ECM really doesn't affect it.

DHS: I just mean it has more dissipation than it did before the Oct 16th patch, due to increased dissipation across the board.

to be fair, the spider lacks any definition of armor, only found by the ECM but if you want to use in close range... i think you should go with another variant?
in my long due experience on the -5D, the best is it to use poking weapons for making the enemy uncomfortable, getting them to turn around in search for the threat, while repositioning and repeating the process.
without an ECM you will get scanned before getting too close for comfort or damage, even in Qplay considering the spam of LRM's these days, leaving you on a gameplay type like the piranha...
of course, even with ECM i did got killed or legged just by roaming around few assaults, because the heavy ppc alpha was meant for the assault mech and i was just randomly hitted.

in my humble opinion, the spider shines with build like the "Trigun" without getting traced by the laser burns, but the downside is a sub-efficient dps (3x light ppc's... not that much)

I fail to see why you want to use such an old-school build over a modern version for this play style:
