Was thinking about how I try to work AC5's into just about every mech I have, and that it is one of the first considerations on purchasing a Heavy mech for me... How many AC5's can I fit in it?.... Dakka Dakka B!7CH3$ What is your goto weapon, and why? It doesn't need to be technical, unless that's your sole reason... What is that one weapon that makes you just want to pull the trigger? And why?
I have good luck with the UAC/5s, as when they jam only one of them jams and I can still pour out a constant stream of damage. I was piloting my 733C last night instead of my thunderbolts (the 5SS just feels like such a grind can't get comfortable with it) and I could spit out 150 rounds easily before half the team was dead (with minimal misses). So I upped the ammo to 210 and lo and behold I hit 900+ damage constantly. Even despite the nerf those UAC/5s are still the weaponized version of Jack the Ripper. They just kick ass, and spit fire while doing it. I also picked the AC/5s for other mechs that can't more than one UAC/5 in it, such as my Heavy Metal, as It is still a great weapon for reliable DPS. As far as energy goes, the PPC calls my name nearly every time. Something about shooting lightning from my shoulder and seeing it smack into the enemy just gives me chills and thrills. Now for missiles, streaks, streaks, and more streaks. Lights are a nuisance when I am piloting my heavies and assaults, and I want them offa me. So pack as many missiles as I can and blow those f*ckers to kingdom come
It's actually my favorite TDR and the only one I can pull consistent 600-ish damage with, funnily. Running the "Synergy" build currently. My favorite weapons are Medium Lasers because they can compliment every build, are light and have decent range. Large Lasers when I have spare tonnage and need a bit more range. since they weigh 5x as much for only dealing 2x damage of ML I don't equip too many of them and equip ERLL if the heat allows it. It's all about dem range. PPCs are great energy burst damage instead of a long dragged out beam, and I really like them for hitting specific parts on mechs, but especially to knock out ECM. AC5s (grouped) because the cooldown just works great for my usual playstyle. I have the tendency to click once at a location I want, and pretty often. the Cooldown, speed, damage all work out great for me. LBX10/UAC5 when I'm running a single ballistic. LBX10's crit damage is great for the brawling, UAC5 can pull some surprising damage at range, even though it jams too often for me. When taking safe potshots from range it does very well. SRM4s when hit registration is fixed, because the innate spread is awesome, they take less slots than an SRM6, and are generally just great. AC20s because AC20s. The damage is awesome and landing one on a light and seeing it explode instantly feels godlike.
Only 3 or 4 options? I like far more weapons than that. I pretty much parallel everything SubSeven has said, those are all my favorite weapons right there for the exact same reasons. However, since the alterations to the UACs, I rarely use them anymore.
I am using the 2xPPC, 5xML for my 5SS and it just feels so... Underpowered. It's the only one I have managed to pull out over 500 damage with even though I am constantly smacking people with PPC's. I just prefer the ballistic of the 5S more. I'm a ballistic man at heart haha hear:
The Idea was that one weapon that just gets your goat, and why... I was going to do just one choice, because I didn't want it to be about the mech, but the weapon. In any case I took role, and/or weapon type in to account and added more choices. For me it was easy... AC5 hands down. Loadout 2, 3, 4... I just can't wait to pull the trigger. Put'em in a chain, put'em in a group, shoot like you're insane, turn that other guy too soup . AC5's that's the ticket.... sorry, it's one of those days.
I used to swear by the 2PPC5ML build, though I also rarely got 500 damage with that. Swapping the 3 ML in the left torso for an ERLL and some other bits of tweaking around really helped though. Then again, I was pretty fond of the extremely hot 4P build so I'd probably be an energyman with AC5 tendencies. Anyway, off topic. I usually DESPISE the UAC5 as well ReconSaint, but if you only have 1 ballistics slot and somehow can't fit an LBX10 there, the UAC5 is my second option, because the DPS of 1 AC5 is just too low, and UAC5 jamming is not a big problem then as it's not integral to my build, but still puts out double the AC5 DPS from time to time. That weapon with 2 ERLLs and 2 SSRMs on a SHD-5M got me almost 1k damage, of which up to 450 could (and probably will) have been from that UAC5 pumping out lead.
I'm always a fan of the [size=6pt]wub wub wub instead of the Medium Lasers if I have to speed to counter the range difference. Anything over 90kph and either a medium or light.
ER PPC MECHWARRIOR 3 NEVER FORGET So many memories of waiting for that first Orion or that first Thor chassis and just strapping it with ER PPCs until I ran out. EDIT: For that matter, LB10X, but I don't go to that in MWO because it doesn't knock bitches down like it did in MW3.
Medium Laser. From a purely statistical perspective the Medium Laser is king. Heat, DPS, Range, it's all good. Add to that the fact that you can fire up to 6 of them at the same time without ghost heat... what more could you want? As for my personal favorite weapons... it would have to be the LBX10 and the SSRM 2. # or more Streaks on a mech and you're be laughing all the way to the bank. And while 1 LBX is nice to have 2 is godly. I love my Hobo K2.
Considering the time frame, and the fact it would probably be in greater supply I would think that AC's are probably using something more dense than lead, like Depleted Uranium.
It is, basically, a giant "machine gun" that fires predominantly cased explosive shells though models firing saboted high velocity kinetic energy penetrators or caseless ordnance do exist. - Sarna
I honestly don't care if it's lead, uranium or something explosive, as long as it kills stuff and stops jamming so often
IIRC in the novels it's usually depleted uranium. The Yen-Lo-Wang refit's Gauss rifle fires Nickel balls and steel girders.
Haven't actually felt really at home with any one weapon. Just wait till they introduce the Clan LBX-20! Or Clan Ultra AC/2s! I was somewhat overly fond of my 4-6 CUAC/2 Mauler back in MW4. Rock your gyros to kingdom come. But at some point in time of all the mechs I own, the MLas has found its home on them and thus is the only thing I voted for. Funny though, I practically never put MLas on any of my mechs back in MW4.
My vote goes to: lb10x, mlas, srm4 and ssrm2. Imonho, the four of them offers a good range, decent dps and versatility.
