I have always wanted to build a mech that would fit the idea of an A Capella piece called "El Hambo". Well, I noticed that in the Smurfy mechlab the Locust, with an engine size of 190, could reach 153 kph and with speed tweak, 169 kph. to keep the build cheap, I used a standard engine and then mounted two Medium lasers for better range (compared to small lasers). This is the end result. Pros: Cheap (costs a little over 3 million c-bills) Fast (I found the Locust chassis is very maneuverable) Very manageable weapons load out (I find that having two medium lasers is easy to control and use) Never overheats (I have never had this issue) Cons: No armor to talk about (kind of obvious with this chassis) Low Damage output (10 damage) Needs to be within 702 m to do damage (unless you mount a medium laser range module)
It is an actual build. I used it and had a fair amount of success in it. I average about 200 damage per game with it. You do have to play a lot of peek-a-boo to get that damage though.
On a chassis that can regularly get 800-1000 damage (if not instagibbed) this is certainly not optimal... However, I understand keeping it cheap - just would never recommend it.
