Didn't have the cash for the XL255, so, I used an XL235 I had in my warehouse and threw in an SRM4.

Freaking love this slow monster. I call her The Creep. 18DPS and good heat? (when you're careful with lasers) Yes, please, sir!

Thought about posting a separate build, but, it's close enough to Grimm's.

I'm fine with that! He was rockin' 6 or 7xML, 2xLL from what I could tell and just tearing everything up! He was fast enough to reach every major brawl, sniping from across the map and somehow not overheating. I was impresssed.

(and I still had more kills, so :p )

Based on your descriptions I've reverse engineered that build here:

This thing is slow but it makes one hell of an Assault escort. Good god. People see an Atlas and automatically try to take the 100T monster out... Until they notice two of their friends just dropped to a 16DPS (focused, moreover) 'Fract from Hell. :D

yeah, it's odd how people try to take out an atlas, only to ignore his escorts

Well, to be honest, I do the same. The Atlas is USUALLY the bigger threat. However, if you don't have the time/modules to get a readout on his baddie buddies, you may never know that 70 tons of murder is standing behind him.

I had my sights on a build like this before I even had a 4X. I HATED the stock 4X. It's just terrible to be in something that slow when you don't have the firepower of a Stalker. I almost gave up on it.

The downside to the Dakka build is that you fire so often that you never want to turn away. Thus, your CT is always facing right at your enemy, waiting to be cored. Adding the 255XL gave me the speed I need to go from a slug-speed slugger to a brisk drive-by-killer. Just got highest score in the match on my first time out with my remodeled 4X.

Only thing I changed was that I only have 1 medium laser in favor of more AC ammo, but I'm going to try it exactly like this loadout real soon.

    5-Stars!

Just beat my personal record for highest score with this exact build, with the 2 medium lasers. Score was 117! It was in the new 12 v 12 on Caustic. My only problem is that I ran out of ammo but still had lots of armor, so I was stuck running around MLasing people while they shot me to death. Maybe in 12 v 12 it would be better to drop one Mlas for more ammo. Either that or really be sure your shots will all land.

I ran it yesterday with 120 rounds in 12v12 on Forest Colony and ended up with ~750 damage and 4 kills. More ammo would be nice, my problem is just the speed to get to a fight. If I were faster, I would use more ammo, but, even on a small map it can be hard to find the opportunity to fire that much plenty of times.

I use the same build and I am hooked.

My very first match with this build. Bear in mind I am HORRIBLE at this game my average damage is usually about 300 and get 1 MAYBE 2 kills IF Im lucky every other game. This is also the first time I've solo'd 3 of my kills from full health to 0 while only taking moderate damage myself one of them was a light...I didn't recieve a lot of accurate return fire.. cockpit shake? Was literally 1 shot from getting my 6th kill when match ended he had no leg, arms and torso was armorless and red. I am hooked thanks for the inspiration. I was able to spam my ACs in chainfire without ever coming close to overheating on the hottest map there is and only got close when I added the medium laser spam as well but that was long long into the fight. Just had to stop using them for a sec while still using my ACs and never overheated.
Keep in mind also this does not have a single basic unlock yet.

Perfect example guys. As I said before I am a HORRENDOUSLY bad new player. I don't have a single mech with a better than 1:1 KD in fact most don't even come close.... With this build however?..

Mech Games Wins Loss Win% Kills Deaths K/D Dmg
    CATAPHRACT CTF-4X 11 5 6 0.83 20 5 4.00 4,563

From a 1:3 KD in virtually all the other mechs I have played to a 4:1 KD in this mech over 20 matches enough to not be a fluke. From averaging about 200dmg a battle to 450 damage a battle. Do I occasionally explode due to the engine? In my 5 deaths its been maybe once. Multiple 700 damage matches in a day...All the mech surely not my skill.

Even for it's speed, still one of the deadliest builds out there. Play it with the mindset of an assault and tear it up. AC/20 that fires every 1.5 seconds? Yes, please.

I love this build. Sometimes, things just line up perfectly.

I ran out of ammo, all 240 rounds of AC5.

I have been piloting this exact same build. It murders other mechs, but I have two major issues with it.
    1) It's painfully slow. It's barely faster than a Fatlas or Stalker and it's 30 tons lighter. I have mine mastered and 64.9kph is a crawl. On larger maps, I have trouble getting to the fight and engaging before half the enemy team is dead.
    2) 180 rounds is barely enough ammo, if you're using chain fire. What consistently happens to me is that I'll get trigger happy cause some pilot is standing still or moving in a straight line, I'll press mouse button 3, which is all 4 AC5s. That eats through ammo very fast. I have my Ilya set up with 3xAC5, 3xML with 300 rounds of ammo, I can fire all three AC5s and I have yet to run out of ammo on the Ilya.

As an aside, I'm really beginning to hate XL engines...

If you need more Ammunition, simply drop AMS and Armor:

I hadn't seen a quad AC5 build for a very long time... that is, until last night. Had the unpleasant run-in with this exact build while in my Shadowhawk. I managed to CT core him with some very lucky AC20 shots, but my armor was stripped all over and deep red internals D: only walked about 3 steps before a lone MLas cut me in half.

I was honestly terrified running into this build.

Later saw a similar Jager-DD quad AC5, but his piloting was lacking.

5/5 for terror factor in addition to being a solid build.

Been runnining this build for a little while now, previously running with just the 4xAC5 and no MLs with more ammo. The addition of the MLs really put this thing through the roof.

I built one of these, after doing some research to try to find a good mech to run a multi-AC5 build on. Two AC5s on chainfire is surprisingly effective (for me, at least, much more so than link-firing the same two AC5s), so I wanted to build something with more, and this seemed like the best bet. Slow, certainly, but that has advantages as well. That means most of your allies will throw themselves into battle before you get there, and make themselves into obvious targets so you can lumber up and start boring holes into things.

And the damage that can be done with this is astounding. I didn't include the AMS, opting instead for more ammo. Except for one time that some of the ammo was shot out by enemy fire, I have never run out of it. 240 rounds lasts a long time, even with 4 autocannons trying to burn through it. I tried running without the lasers at first, but the build is actually more survivable with them. They don't really cause much in the way of heat problems, the added damage is helpful, having something to use against lights is always good, and all I had to do was drop two tons of ammo for them. Since I never run through my current ammo load, I clearly didn't need two more tons.

Anyway, I've been getting multiple damage scores up in the 800 ranges with this. I never think to take screenshots while I'm there, so I'm afraid you'll have to take my word for it, but the very first match I played after installing the lasers was one of them, so I considered that a good vindication for the build.

This sort of build (just with Small Lasers instead of MLs- for more ammo and a Standard engine instead of XL) was my very first bought Mech- and is still my go-to if I want to deal horrendous damage. I've actually found a nice compromise between all 4 at once and full chain fire- I put each arm on a separate button (left and right, natch), but each arm is chainfired. This means I can get a good stutter/chain with all 4 when I want some saturation, but I can still get a good heavy 10 damage punch by firing two arms at the same time.
