The above build has AMS but if you need more ammo (and most of us do) then check this one out...

This one packs a little more ammo (210 rounds) as well as armor but you lack the protection of AMS so make sure someone can Bubble Wrap you (ECM bubble for you noobs) or has AMS on them which is close enough for you to use if you need it.

I've never used the CTF-4X myself but I'm curious about how quickly it eats through 180 rounds. I know I've been ripped apart by these before so I'm sure it's a good build.

This is the same build I came up with when I first bought my 4X. Works well and is a lot of fun to play.

Mythweaver, the ammo is usually just enough to get through a match, though I have run out a couple times in longer games.

just one question: do you fire them at the same time, or chain fire? because they seem to jam a lot.

AC/5's do not jam. Their big sister, the Ultra AC/5, does though!

This is a great loadout. UAC5s are too unreliable at the moment and the 4xAC5 works very well.

UAC5s are only going to jam when you trigger their second shot within 1.1 sec reload afaik. If you have good discipline the UAC5 will still dish out much more DPS. the downside of course being heavier as a weapon and with the ammo.
I saw someone with a quad UAC5 Jager yesterday that did really well, I think this will too. The DPS is of course a lot lower, but 20 damage every 1.7 sec isn't something to scoff at either :)

What do you mean the DPS was lower? If both the jager and the ctf are using the 4x uac5, they would be on equal ground i assume?
Also if you just chain fire them or fire them when the reload since they reload faster than the AC5 anyway you will 0 jams.
A macro would be able to do this as well which is what i use.

You can't fit 4xuac5 on the 4x, since it has lower arm actuators.

Is it just me or does this thing explode when someone just looks in your general direction?

Must be just you although I really HATE the 4X and got out of it as quickly as I could.

Been trying to make this thing work with an added Streak, but XL Engines in close range builds is kind of a non-starter. Side torsos die first every time, guaranteed.

Not as good as the 1X, 3D or Ilya (I reserve judgement on the 2X until I have one).

In the right hands, the 4x is a terror. In the wrong hands, it's a 6-million cbill deathtrap.

    Re: Chain vs alpha
Chain-fire when you don't have a good shooting solution, alpha when someone gives you a primo shot at an exposed compartment. This is the biggest thing that distinguishes good 4x pilots from the bad. 20 damage every 1.7 seconds is an amazing thing, but only if you put it exactly where it needs to go.

Don't underestimate LRM/SSRM, AMS can still be handy. Same goes for those MLasers, sometimes it's nice to have the backup firepower for that boosted component damage. Should you run out of ammo in an extended firefight, you'd have backup MLasers to continue dealing damage, thus NOT leaving you useless, just weakened.
Are AMS and MLasers NEEDED? Prolly not, so I will give you that. Are they HELPFUL? Yes, yes they are ;)

Haha just made an identical build on Smurfy. Can't wait to buy the mech and try it out.

I had to get two Cataphracts to level my Ilya and chose this build on the 4X. It is not easy to use but man alive when you go one vs one it is fun. The enemy will be reeling.

We dropped yesterday, me in this build with two friends in Jagermechs (first one with 4xAC5 and the second with 2xAC20). It was ballistic bonanza. On Tourmaline we cornered a stalker with five lasers and hammered him with all guns, 8 AC5 on full auto and AC20 sledgehammers. He must've had a headache, poor chap.

Finally got this build up and running last night. So far, it's clearly the best build I've ever done. You're basically firing a long-range AC20 every 1.5 secs, with a couple lasers for good measure, and almost no heat problems. K-D ratio of 3.25 after 19 matches, more than double any of my other mechs. And that's without even basic xp stuff unlocked. Your loss if you don't like this mech. I'm glad there isn't more of them running around.

I've been using a modified version of this build, purely based off of lack of c-bills :D I can't afford the XL engine, so I built around the existing engine. It's slower than dirt, but puts out crazy damage. I've been a perpetual 100-300 damage per game player, very average at best. I've cranked out a 736 damage game and 400+ is common. Can't wait to put the XL in.
