I kept it simple: I voted for option 2 because I just want to know where I stand. I don't give 2 shits about anyone else. I want to know MY skill level.

In an effort to answer your question Blagg, I would suggest the following. Having PSR displayed for all would -
    • Encourage everyone to try thier best at all times (as people can see how good you are and being a higher tier is better..)
    • Encourage more teamplay - I would listen to the tier 1 players as they will know what they are talking about in a game
    • Give an explanation why we got rolled, their team had higher tier players than ours
    • Give a clear indication if the MM is actually working, as you will be able to see tier disparity across the teams
The only alternative balancing mechanism would be to ignore skill and introduce a mech level (read battlevalue) and simply face two teams off with an equal battlevalue in doing so you could probably ditch the need for 3/3/3/3 too. This is how Wargaming do it, but it can lead to facerolls when one team is full of purples and the other is full of reds.. Warthunder also balances on a vehicle rating alone.

You KNOW option# 2 would win out, and that would be as planned by PGI also.

Thx for the thoughts. I have questions for you to your points:
    1. In a closed competitive event/group, yes this encouragement is good. But do you really think All of the Players (PUGs in Majority) really want to play with "try their best at all times"? In my experience with Games in general most Players just want to have some fun in their freetime, after work etc. Only a Minority really wants alltime tough Competition Atmosphere.
    2. Do you really need Tiers to find out, who to listen? Seriously? For me i just need to play some matches with someone to know if he is from another skill lvl and that i can learn from him. About the teamplay: A Tier 1 guy with the PSR method just tells me that he found out how to get the most scores out from the faulty calculation. Thought about this: I am simply smart to know Tricks to extend my E-penis, but is it a proof for you that i can use my Gear well (in a team-based gameplay!)? ;-P
    3. Huhn? So how does this PSR MM now work? You can be picked for a game of a significant Tier Mismatch like 1-1-2-2-2-2-1-2-1-2-2-1 vs 1-2-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3? I thought the sum of all player tiers of both teams are matched equally.
    4. Valid point. I approve. But my question: Even if you had homogene Tier Players in both teams, and no Tier Sum Mismatch, is this PSR method the correct way to calculate player skill accurately? If the calculation method puts two players of completely different skill lvls into the same bracket due to faulty calculation, how useful are the Tiers really for us players to "rate" ourselves and the others? It's imo misguiding and dividing the community.

    1) The best games are the closest fought, won or lost. To get that you will need to be fighting against similar skilled players, to do that you will want to put the effort in when you play.

    2) No, but hopefully the player base will expand and not being an active forum user I'll be honest; beyond you guys and girls on her I don't know who is worth listening too. I know certain clan tag players, like LORD should know what they are doing. But from a new player perspective I think it could be an excellent way to tell the goods from the bads.

    3) The hope is that the all players will be matched equally. But that isn't always possible. Just look at WoT, it is not unheard of for one team to have two T10 tanks and the other team to only have one, a slight disparity but it can make a large difference.

1-1-1-1-1-1-3-3-3-3-3-3 vs 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 is an equally balanced team, both teams have an average PSR of 2. But will the six T1 players counter balance the six T3 players? Or will they get rolled?

    4) Glad we agree!) I'm not sure if it is the correct way, but I do think it deserves to be given a chance.

    1. People are playing with every kind of personal reason. Some want to put max effort into the game like it is their sole reason to exist - like nerds in the Uni. Some will simply want to play with a bit effort, j4fun, like playing with some friends Basketball in the school, not in the NBA. Why is it good to drive ppl to give best effort in all matches, like being in Olympia - in a still not Competition-ready-state Game? I still don't get it. IMo it's rather contraproductive for the Playerbase.

    2. Why should full disclosure expand the Playerbase? Pls explain. Does it attract so many new gamers? What expands the game is rather good contents, good gameplay mechanics, good support, good ingame shop. But full disclosure Ratings putting all ppl into different quality classes, not regarding with what purpose they want to play, not regarding what Mechs they pilot. Heck, even the last Iteration of ELO Rating in MWO regarded at least Weight Classes.

    3. This naive hope we all had and some still have. But it doesn't work with a calculation method that doesn't regard many many relevant factors.

The example you mentioned is ok, if and only IF the calculation method is accurate and differentiated enough.

Btw. since you seem to like WoT a lot - I played WoT 2013, i put some cash into it, because i like the game. I still got unused Currency Codes, but someday i gave up on that game, because MM was most times putting me into Matches where i was -2 Tiers below the other Players. I could shoot & hit 10 times an enemy from good distance, i did so low Damage. But the enemies shot worse but could kill me with 1 Hit. So don't take WoT as a good example. I still like that kind of Tank Games. Maybe i just had bad Luck the whole time.

    4. Yea, it deserves to be experimented, that's why there are test servers, closed beta Groups, closed Tournaments. If it works, then it will attract more and more ppl in a natural way and maybe yes with accurate calculation method and a real good MM the Majority will join. So why are you against #2? Because only T1 guys would opt-in and rest are scaredy-cats?
But then you have the Filter you want - all Tier 1 guys you can see and listen to. Every hidden Ninja you may interpret as a Tier 5 Noob and ignore. What's the problem? And you always can make friends with some Ninjas and ask their tier lvl on a private channel. Whether you trust him or not, it's up to you.

It is good to know your own Tier so you have the choice to use it to improve due to the regarded factors in the calculation method, to feel good (epeen?). But with faulty calculation method it's useless for real measuring.

Ever played in the WE Tournaments with the legendary Score Formulas by PGI? They were so flawed, drove ppl to play unnaturally with every trick to get the highest scores, disregarding real good Teamplay. And bet that the ppl felt so proud of themselves like being real kings. I played some few times, i got #3 in my Faction House. Was I good? Sure, for the Formula, but in real Competition with valid methods and Rules, i'm just the average guy, maybe good with some few Mechs. Just watch my Youtube Vidz and you'll know, they are my average but fun games.

But what we talk so much? #2 still gonna make it. :p

On the other hand. if you need to get cbills real fast it means you only need to deliberately screw up a few games to drop in tiers, then it is cbills reaping time.
Need to do the cbills vs xp calculation carefully though.

I voted for full disclosure, either I can see anyone ranks or then it's useless, and I prefer to see nothing.

Because if I'm given the opportunity to show or not, why would I give more info? Unless only my team could see it.

Do you also have the feeling that Damage is the dominant factor for Matchscore Calculation? I took out my HBK-4J for some few rounds in this Week Tournament -> ii got high matchscore in one round, where i had nearly 1K damage, but zero kills. This Calculation is not really reflecting true Piloting/Effective Killer/Teamplay Skill imo

You're not the only one that's getting that feeling. Of course, damage was the dominant factor in the old match score calculation as well so it shouldn't be all that surprising.

Looking at it, I just had a match where I did 768 damage with 10 assists and no kills (5 Most Damage Dealt with 17 component destroys) and JujuShinobi did 4 less damage with 4 kills, and got a match score of similar value, but only 1 MDD and fewer components. So I'd say it's cumulative still

Damage have always been the big factor in matchscore, so much that narc lights is not worth it during contests where you require matchscore.

Well, they mentioned that match score is affected by "anything that affects XP or CBills"...and NARC has almost none of those bonuses compared to the TAG, which gets numerous bonuses. So TAG will always be better for these things than NARC, unless they revise the rewards to include the beacon.
