Hi all, I have only the Dragon Slayer so far, but I have enough c-bills to buy an XL 400 engine. I was wondering if you guys thought it was worth it to purchase the engine, since it seems to me that the Victor is the only mech that can make use of it.
the Pretty Baby is also a mech that uses the xl400. But until the Battle-masters, XL400's are not that useful.
I don't understand why anyone would get a XL400 over an XL395. Unless I'm reading the stats wrong, that's the biggest jump in weight for the least return of all the increments (2 tons for 1 mph mastered). The jump in tonnage is supposedly due to the fact that the XL400 can have 6 DHS in the engine instead of 5, but none of the XL400 builds posted have nearly that many DHS stuffed in there.
Ever piloted this beast? However, there already is a discussion about this engine. Buying the XL400 indeed is pointless, but some of us - like me - got it when the Boar's Head was on a 50% sale. Would never had bought that thing otherwise - neither the mech nor the engine ;-). EDIT: As the build above is the DRAGON Slayer, how about a Fang build on it? It's not bad, mind you (both of them), and the added armor and the jump jet will make this a pretty bad boy... but while the Fang might be excellent with this loadout, the DS can do so much more when not dedicated to travel at a Timber Wolf's speed.
As said, the XL400 is only useable in extremely few configurations. If you have every other size of engine or if you don't mind spending CBills, sure, buy it. But I never use mine except in two builds out of my 120+ mechs. One is a Battlemaster and the other...I've forgotten. Hm? Will check tonight.
Yup got mine with the Boar's Head... not on sale.... ahem. Used it with a quad ERLL setup on the BLR-1S pre clans and it was a blast. Fast, agile, and teh energy weapon ports are extremely high.
