If you want some (quiet) commentary, I made this video with commentary for a similar thread that was discussing the best builds for the locust. Of course, a lot of this is out-of-date since they screwed up the 3M quirks and made it useless, although by the end I do recommend the 1E which I still do.

both videos are quiet interesting. great piloting, but I wonder why nobody one-shots you, when u are standing still :D. I just have to think of standing still and gets one-shoted ;)
most of the enemy team was ignoring you, which surprises me too. Everytime I pilot my locust, I am primed or three enemies try to hunt me down :(

Timing, I see what the enemy mech has for weapons either by his loadout or seeing him shoot, then I have the ability to time my stops while his weapons cooldown to get an accurate shot.
You have to make yourself easy to ignore. If you're too annoying, they will chase after you while fighting back what they should already know: to NOT chase the rabbit. So positioning yourself in terrain relative to your team so even chasing you is rather difficult without running into a bigger target for them to switch to.

Ideally speaking, the perfect time to engage in a light mech is the exact same time an assault mech engages. When people see a Dire Wolf launching fire at them, a lot of other mechs tend to turn a lot less scary in that instant. I've spent entire sections of matches weaving through an enemy team because they were afraid of one assault mech ;)

Stopping in a Locust (or any light mech) is a matter of experience...I generally tell people that rules one through three of a light consist of "never stop, you're stopping, WHY ARE YOU STOPPED!?" Once you really know how, when, and where you can afford to slow down or stop, it becomes much easier to justify, and Solahma mentioned the perfect reason: once you know what the cooldown on a weapon is like, you can judge how and when to get that well aimed shot. Knowing when to stop for a Seismic reading is important too, and can save your live many times.

    Yep.
I favor pulse lasers and SRMs on my lights so I don't feel the need to stop to shoot accurately, but I learnt the use of seismic sensor on a light - it's life saving. But in order to stop safely, you need good positioning, situational awareness and map knowledge.
Also, no need to stop for ages. All you need is half a second. With deceleration and acceleration quirks, the Locust can perform 170kph to 0 to 170 in no time.

are you using the x-key vor the full stops or the "Throttle decay"-option?

I'm personally using the full-stop key, but that's mostly because I pilot other mechs for those I think throttle decay would be harmful, and I don't want to change my settings every time I change mechs.
But probably if I piloted Locusts exclusively I'd use the throttle decay, it seems more reactive (especially for quick forward-backward movements).

Starting with the light mechs I finally got used to throttle decay about half a year ago and am using it exclusively on every weight class know. I haven't looked back...

Throttle decay all the way, it feels more immersive and it's something I've always played with.

I've always run with throttle decay, never used the "stop button" on any mech. I'm so used to it now, it'd be impossible to play otherwise.

As a member of SJR, it is my duty to inform you that the secondary color channel is supposed to be white.

Bruh do you even cookie? It's meant to look like a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth, gooey chocolate chip cookie! I chose another orange color to imitate that golden brown of the crispy dough as well as a clash with the gooey bits :shy:

(still working out my recording software, sorry quality is meh)

Forgot to screenshot the scoreboard afterward, but it's:
    9 kills, 950ish damage.

    Very well done.

    What are you using?
(if you have an Nvidia, I find Shadowplay to be pretty light on resources and easy to use)

First time with OBS, apparently my bitrate was set to 1kb/s, and the desired would be 3500. Better videos incoming!

Streams at 3500bitrate (limit of twitch) will still get kinda grainy, if you are just saving to disk you could probably go a lot higher. Not sure what kind of performance hit you get thou from OBS at higher bitrates with a CPU dependent game.

The best is to test different bitrates and see how it looks and how it affects your performances. But indeed 3500kb/s is still kind of low, even for 720p. For example, Youtube upload recommendation for a 1080p video is 8Mb/s.
Also, the lower the bitrate does not mean the easier for your computer, since it needs to compress it on the fly it might mean the opposite.

I tried the locust for the last few days trying to master them. Staying on the move and use cover ether ground/buildings or try to have some juicier target for the enemy to shoot at.
Recorded at 50.000bitrate with hardly any artifacts but then Youtube happened, still not annoyingly bad but.

Casual play with a LCT 1E.
75 min. Sry, average quality vid, I'll fix that for next ones.
