Your First Mech, Your First (Cringe) Build

Now close your eyes as youcr mind spiraled back to the distant past.
What is your first build like?
I am sure looking back it is probably a cringey piece of shit build.

So just post it here so we can make fun of it together!

First thing first, just to be fair, my artworks...

There as no ghost heat. I took off FF. For some reason I buy XL for hunchie, but buy XL250 instead of XL255.


Bought a CN9-D cause I heard XL300 is a nice thing, also, it was a trial mech and I have exp in it. And try to copy the zombie Hugger. Realize that I should instead get a CN9-A
Does read forum on mwo, is confused until I find a mechlab program which is offline (not the song lee thing but another discontinued project. Thanks! Whoever that guy is).


Bought a RVN-3L cause it looks cool and has ECM thing, which I heard is cool.
The XL once again feels really expensive. Funny to think about that way cause now all I need is grab an unused one in my garage.


Around that time heard of the streakcat thing, and have seen some. Is torn between getting one of the catapult, or get a cicada so I can fill a stack of PPC (think, noisy cricket type). Saving up for mech, and is ready to buy Mechbay seeing that I am running out, which I consider to be the only must have in terms of MC.
Got a streakcat. Not a cringe build cause I just copy. Feels expensive now.

Found mechspecs, while looking for mechlab program and updates, but is otherwise lurking.
Mechspecs is not using smurfy yet, probably cause smurfy does not exist yet. I found smurfy quite later. Got some stack of mechbays with first MC purchase, and got a Ilya cause it looks cool, though wish I could recolor the patterns. Turns out Ilya is love.
My build may not be good, but most are mechspecs tweak now.

Realise I need to get 3 mech of the same chassis to level more, and go back for CN9-D, got a hunchback 4P instead, cause of ll the energy, and that you can/should use STD on hunchies which means cheaper..

 

I actually got lucky...I checked online for builds before I even bought my first mech, so I ended up with this, a build I still use often:



The only change is that, these days, I use one ERPPC and one regular PPC so I have a dead zone weapon. This build shows up on my 3M a lot too, minus a DHS for the ECM of course

 

Ummh mine weren't bad sadly as I played very classic for a long time. Most of my awful builds were later when I was experimenting.

 

Ok in hindsight the first mech I remember and played quite a lot wasn't great....



This was for 8v8 of course.

 

Yeah I didn't include the early days as I remember the awful days with all sl builds...

 

What was the speed cap before they changed it and smaller engine weight when locusts came in?

 

My first Mech was the Kitty C1, and i played with the Stockloadout pretty long time before i experimented with PPCs and SRMs. I still that Variant even though the Chassis is very vulnerable in 1v1 Fights.

 

My first mech was a Cicada 3M. I upgraded to endo, double heatsinks, ecm and stuck more UAC-5 ammo in it. But every time I ran it I kept getting my legs taking out. Got so frustrated I sold it. What I didn't realize for my first few mechs was I didn't have enough armor. The stock 3M has 12 armor on its legs, /headslap.

 

phract 1x. 4LL, xl340. So beautiful. Pretty sure this was the exact build - 1.9 tons left over & 20 rear armor included.



This was back in Dec 2012/Jan 2013 when 87kph was fast and no ghost heat meant you could run around behind people in forest colony and just destroy rear armor while laughing in glee. You sure as shit ran away from atlases, though.

 

Well, my first mech was a COM-2D with 3xSSRM2 and a Mlas for backup, so a pretty decent little mech, even before ECM was introduced.

One very early stupid mech that I did try was the RVN-4X which I bought because I wanted to test out ballistics, but was too cheap to buy a real mech and DHS. I used the XL210 from my Commandos:

 

Did the same mistake, but with AC10 and LBX10.
Was expecting LBX10 would be great like any shotgun in fps.

I was to nubbish to stay cool using 4ML and dual AC20 at the time, so instead dropped 2 MLs for more ammo.

 

I see nothing wrong with that as its a build I later used.

Um, my first "build" was a JR7-F(C) (bought the Champ because I was too impatient to way to save up C-Bills for the fast engine...) Standard 6x MLas, XL300, 14 DHS...

First mech I actually tried to theory craft a bit and build myself? Oh it was bad... COM-2D with SINGLE HEAT SINKS!


Ouch.

Then came my Jag... Low mounted energy as main weapons with an XL...


Remember when you could use ERPPCs and LLas together? Well, doesn't work so hot anymore... Plus, XL w/ MGs... Just nope all over!

The cringeworthy bit is that I got the Champion version. It's not all bad though, since the bonus XP means more GXP, so when weapon mods came out I had enough GXP stockpiled to buy all the ones I wanted for the mechs I used.

And yes, I did check mechspecs before building my first mech. Why wouldn't I?
