I am toying with the Idea of stripping my Phoenix mechs down for C-Bills and using the cash to modify mechs that I am currently working on leveling. The reson behind the thought is that I don't have the time to play often enough to grind out the cash to do what I want with some of the mechs I am working on, and I could use the cash to accelerate building up the mechs that I actually plan on keeping. I know it isn't really the cost effective way to go about this, but the mechs are just sitting there. Any thoughts or constructive criticism would be welcome.
Start by selling off all of the engines, then see where you are from there. I wouldn't sell the chassis yet since it is so hard to tell which ones you'll like. Well, except for the Loci. Sell them now, and don't look back.
First thing I did with my pheonix mechs was to completely strip them, sell anything I did not foresee an immediate need for, and then swim in all the c-bills. I sold most of the engines, especially any duplicates. Sold most of the weapons except ones I knew I was going to immediately use in my re-builds. I have never made a drop in stock mech since Open Beta
If you are absolutely certain you want to sell the mech, keep in mind you wont be able to get it back till it is released. You sell your battlemasters now, and want them back, you probably will have to wait 2 and a half months for them to be available for c-bills. I would wait till the mechs come out for c-bills before I sell them, so I can get them back if regret sets in. I also am enjoying the phoenix mechs alot, so probably wont sell them in the first place
*sigh* skidog2k3, the OP, has already said he only wants to STRIP THEM DOWN. He has made no mention of selling the mechs. He is only asking if he should strip them to get money to finish his other mech builds.
I figured out the builds I wanted first. Then I stripped down all of my Project Phoenix 'Mechs. Kept all of the XL engines (since they are fragging expensive...) and any of the STD engines I needed for builds. Sold the rest. Kept the weapons I would use for builds. Sold most of the Medium Lasers, keeping around a half-dozen or so. Sold all of my SHS, except for the ones needed for the Locust 1V. And now I'm happy with most of the PP guys now. Except that TDR-9SE. Still working the kinks out of him.
Thanks for the advice guys. I don't plan on selling any of the mechs, at least not until I have the chassis elited, only parts, and I'm convinced that is the thing to do at this point. Again,.I appreciate the help.
XL300, Jump Jets, pair of PPCs in the Arms, Medium Lasers and SRMs in the left torso. Jump snipe at range, jump brawl when they close in. Savor the sweet taste of the TDR-9SE.
You should be able to sell most of the engines without issue. Just don't sell the 5M's seemingly useless XL275, as that's the max-rated engine for a few medium 'mechs.
I prefer STD engine in Thunderbolts. They have that hitbox thing going where they are really hard to kill under STD engine. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=116&l=20ca023b3cccbf55fcd43b73d930b09507abffb1 A bit hot, but jump/snipe with the ER, and use the MLas/SRM close range. Standing sniper should use the SS variant, those RT energy hardpoints are great.
If you REALLY need the money, just sell any duplicate engines. You should have 3x STD160s, 2x STD275s, 3x STD260s, and, 3x STD340s. If you only keep one of each and just swap them out when switching mechs, the extra engines alone will net you 4.75m C-Bills. Then there's the STUPID amount of MLas, quite a few PPCs, all the CASE, all the STD Heatsinks, and a few missile pods you could sell... ~5.5-6.5m C-Bills possible. It is quick cash, however, you have to consider the time it will take to swap parts out for each mech build you want to run (and the time to find those parts and which mech they're in) and possible cost to rebuy if you want in the future.
I don't think you would want to rebuy those useless SHS, but they don't net you much cbills, same goes with the MLas. I do think you can sell an engine or two though, since there are too many duplicates, and swapping in just the engine is easy.
I swap my modules around anyway, so swapping the engines as well isn't difficult. When I'm done using a mech I always remove the engine, so I never have to search for it.
With how much time I get to spend in Game, I doubt very much I will be doing anything serious with my Phoenix Mecha for quite a while My usual pattern is buy 3 of a chassis I am interested in, elite it out, and keep the one... or two that I like. If I really like the chassis I buy the hero once I elite the standard variants. Running mostly med & hvy, not really much on assaults or lights I have most of the prior non phoenix Mecha that I want, aside from a few finishing touches, done, but I do have a slew of ravens.. murder of crows that I am intent on running, just to see if I can, before I even drop in a phoenix
