The Farmer build is very effective to grind C-bills while feeling awesome while doing it. With a triple LB10-x AC and 2 smlas you want to be up close and personal with your target. *Edited*Added one medium laser for somewhat longer range sniping at exposed internals. Although longer range shots are possible its not recommended unless the target has no armour. Main tactic would be flanking or backstab enemy mechs destroying armour with LB10X then proceed to destroy internals with the lasers. Because this is a hero Mech you get a added 30% extra C-bills that can cover most of the Repair & Rearm cost. the highest repair bill you might get when a 100% R&R is about 100k and the hero bonus already covers about half of it. That's only when you get disarmed and then cored. If you went sneaky shooting lone mechs in the back you might even get 0 c-bill repair and rearms. Though at average you can get from 30k to 70k for a 100% R&R Heat becomes a issue in a prolonged brawl but is manageable. Ammo is a issue but with 4 tons should last a while. I've edited my build a bit and added a medium laser in the right arm for higher dmg and an arm range of precision. As of now you can modify the build more freely allowing 3 or 2 medium laser set-up instead of the small lasers.(kudos to Kyriel) Currently my build is balanced around longer brawling power allowing extended alpha spam at very close range. switch the 2 small lasers for an extra medium and your more suited for medium range for a triple med lasers build you need to switch out a heat sink. Fire discipline is needed when running 3 med lasers.
Interesting. I put together something like this in the mechlab, and honestly I didn't think the third LBX was worth it. I did have a run of excellent games with two LBXs and a trio of medium lasers... you could hear the light mechs scream and the Atlases go wait... where did all my back armor go? I'm trying out two AC10s at the moment, but I might not stay with it for ammo load reasons. I'm curious to hear how your shotgun build matches up to, say, a Centurion with 3 SRM6s. Does the heat difference tip the balance in your favor damage-wise?
I would say that I would win. SRM got a slower travel time then lb10x shot as well as I am a heavier mech with more armour with added laser pinpoint dmg and I do think a lbx does fire faster then srms. I modified my build a bit and put in a med laser instead of a small las in one hardpoint. had to strip from the legs to 30 and arms to 41. Of course if you think 3 is too much for you I am fine with it of you run 2 I can't keep you from playing the game how you wanted. Personally I like mine with 3 having a 30 dmg button just rips through armour allowing you to destroy internals with lasers or even with the LBXs can pretty much completely finish any mech with no torso armour within 2 shots from medium range up to 300m. As for for heat its very decent you can overheat after you do about 8 shots while spamming lasers.
I run a similar build, but instead of using 3 small lasers, I found that I was more efficient with 3 medium lasers, although you really have to chain fire them or control your alphas as it really does run hot. I also only run 10 heat sinks (1.04 heat efficiency) all engine, none slotted in extra engine slot. 368 armor only, so that I can add 5 tons of LBX-10 ammo. If you feel that with 368 armor is soft or you're getting pelted with missiles 'cause you have no ECM mech, drop 1 MLAS, and 1 ton LBX Ammo replace with AMS and 1 ton AMS ammo, and dump the rest in Armor.
I run a similar build with a catapult....2 lbx 4 med lasers..... I do wonderful things with that cat....im sure I would love this one if I tried it.
Personally I like a higher heat efficiency for longer brawls ( and brawling is all you do in this build) and a faster heat dissipation allowing to go to an other target with out to much worry of overheating mid brawls. Though I love having more ammo and more dmg with 3 med lasers its no use if you cant apply both lasers & LBX fire to a target and just overheat before you kill. or have to shoot one weapon group or the other and gimping your self in potential dmg to kill off a target fast. As for AMS I tried with it but found that's not worth as if your being targeted by LRM and no cover to hide behind then you are already doing things wrong in my eyes.
If I had an Ilya, I'd build this. Spent my last MC on a Flame (build in the Flame thread). I'm a big fan of the LBX, and seeing 3 of these on one mech just makes me smile. People see this on the field, and if they're not past 200m, they're trying to get out. I'd have the LB's set to chain fire; you can fire them indavidually for maximum shock value. Faster you click, the faster they fire. I do it on my DDC with 2 LB's and SRM4x3. Makes for wonderfull DPS and putting people in back-peddle mode looking for cover.
ILYA MUROMETS Some of the game mechanics have changed since the OP posted his/her build. Autocannons in general have had their heat generation per shot lowered, and the LB-10X only generates 2 per shot. The extra heat sinks are no longer needed. That freed up two extra tons of space. I added full arm armor and almost full leg armor, and one extra ton of ammo while downgrading a medium laser to a small laser.
For those from the old forums, this is basically my take on the old "Farmer with a Shotgun" version of the Muromets. I was looking around when the forums reopened & didn't see it, so I thought I'd throw this bad boy out there for any newcomers who missed it. Advance warning, this is definitely a close range, support design. Glass cannon armor, with relatively low amounts of ammo. While the LB-10Xs can be fired at range, you will either run out of ammo way too early or get torn apart by any decent sniper design. Intent here is to play a bodyguard/cleanup role. Wait for the main body to engage, then swoop out like a vulture. The cloud of shot will find criticals easily, and lights can get scared off quickly if your aim is good. My best match with this thing netted me killshots on 5 mechs in less than a minute...then promptly got me stomped into the ground by a stiff breeze. Not for everyone, but a nice cleanup design if you have a good team with you.
A lot of firepower in a nice tidy package. My only issues is with ammo placement and amount. Ammo explosions would devastate this bad boy. My second issue is with the amount of ammo. 75 Rounds isn't a lot when you only have 2 cannons. With this shredder you would run out before half the match was over. For more aggressive players like myself the idea of running around half the match with only 2 Medium lasers would drive me crazy. I upped the ammo amount but took away some of its speed. Don't get me wrong not knocking your build it gave me a lot of inspiration and can't wait to try it.
The triple LBX is the only reason I'm buying an Ilya this week... However, I'm going sans laser and cranking up the ammo... I'll start out with the following: And if it's too dry, drop to an XL260 to bump up to 120 rounds. Sustained DPS of "SCREW YOU.96"
Just dinked my way through a few rounds. Not a HUGE damager, but, a hell of a lot of fun and a great clean-up killer. I got overzealous in this round and wasted a lot of ammo, ended up running dry and just using my self as a meat-shield for my team and holding locks for our LRMs. Still, not a bad round... Lots of fun! So, doesn't net huge numbers, but, it's a BLAST to play!
It sure has the potential to net massive damage. I can't wait for the muromets to go on special! I found this video on Reddit. 1366 DMG
It was on sale back in September (http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=3569.0). I wouldn't hold my breath for another Ilya Muromets sale any time soon.
We'll see what happens in December. If they are hard up for cash or want to get in some Christmas bonuses, an if this site is at all representational, the Ilya would be the perfect sale to bump their earnings for the end of the year. If they were to also have a sale on MC as well like they did last year, I imagine people would be picking these things up in droves.
Yeah I'm kicking myself for not getting one. I hold out some hope though with the Heavy Metal being included in 2 recent sales. I think they will have the Misery on sale before the Muromets again tho.
This thing is a beast. I prefer to run the 3 x MLas. Have gone toe to toe vs Atlas's and won easily. Great fun - definite 5 stars
