Why, YES! It is technically possible. You can equip 4x Gauss on a Dire Whale. You drop a lot of armor, however, you're meant to stay in the back-line anyway. So, who needs the extra armor. You can charge two, fire, and, charge the other two and fire while you reload. Turns out to be an INSANE sniper. Think of TheB33f 3x Gauss CTF with an extra 15 points of damage and a 1 second delay between bursts. Is it a good idea? No. Is it a waste of this mech platform, possibly. It is solely ammo dependent and very vulnerable? ABSOLUTELY. However, it's hilarious to tote around 60 points of pinpoint damage and ruin people's day like the ultimate troll... Hang back behind your unit, don't get yourself noticed, and, laugh your nights away. 70 rounds should keep you happy through any round as you should core most mechs with 2 shots. Moreover, you're so slow that you will RARELY get into position in time to use all 70 shots. Moreover, if you are wise, that's 1050 points of pinpoint sniping! The ultimate whore-troll build has arrived!
My allocations for an exactly 20 alpha capable sniper. However, you will be restricted to charging 2 Gauss at a time. So just keep them shooting 2 by 2. Enough ammo for ~1200 damage. You could drop 1 Gauss, add more armor and a targeting computer, then chain fire them one at a time. Much more attractive build and strategy IMO.
I have seen this build working fine. Not easy to use at all, but 1200 potential dmg from 80 gauss rounds make it one of the best ammo-dependant builds, and maybe worth to learn to use it. I saw the guy fire in continuous (chained), so is obvious that a Macro for this is a NEED, but its like 3xAC5s Cataphracts, pure cheese if u learn to use it properly.
Been running into these more often recently,... When they're leading a push those 60 point no-heat alphas hurt A LOT. However sometimes peeps play them as they should and stay back and snipe,... effectively removing a 100 tonner from their lines and easing my victory
My setup for quad gauss Dire: The ERML is there for a bit of extra DPS, as well as being used to take out UAVs if need be. EDIT: Not sure if it'd be better to use all Half ton bricks to fill the remaining slots or not:
I've had a couple good battles tonight with 3Gauss/TC2/3 ML and 9 tons of ammo, thanks for the build Idea Question, they dont chainfire? I was hoping for 3 in a row two always charge? So, mouse1 both torso gauss, mouse2 left arm, 3 the 3 lasers Izza brotha gonna hafta learn this whole macro thing??
Only 2 max of the gauss rifle may fire at once. So says the PGI overlord. But, because of the Gauss charge mechanic, Chain fire will not work (well) with the gauss. It's better to have your many weapon groups 1. 2x gauss torso 2. 2x gauss arm 3. lasers/ppc
Ah, ok, thanks, knew about the charge mechanic and actually thank Blake you can't spool up 4 and zork someone at 900 meters..you think they whine now?? Imagine that pinpoint damage...even if they increased spool up times to...20 seconds...oh hell I'D STILL DO IT!!! But I thought chainfiring would be amazing
but wait, like Moe Howard said, theres been a revoltin' development* I actually ran a four gauss battle- got 622 damage, 1 kills 8 component, we lost...ammo IS a problem Only squeezed 5 tons in *but the important thing...and I dont know if this works for everyone, but...I have torso gauss paired to mouseLB, and arm gauss paired to mouseRB..but..I put all four on mouse LB...follow? mouse2 is still mapped, so I bang off the torso, let go the mouse, hit the mouse again and instantly spools up the arms. Way faster than using two buttons- I could get off four rounds in less than a second. Glitch? somebody else test it, cause I can sling gauss real dam fast. NOW I'm going to strip off armor like the OP, hehe
Yeah... It was disgusting when they first released the clans. I blame myself for them changing the Allowable Charge Mechanic. Started boating 4x Gauss and next thing you know, BOOM! NERFBAT!
Most of the time enemies shoot you in the torsos. You do have to watch out for allies shooting your arms and back armor off. Very low on ammo, but you probably won't live too long and it is nice to have something to scare lights away with.
