The build was originally inspired by @WrathfulMonk who suggested this weapon combo but with an MRM30. I'm piloting that build with a standard engine now and I like it so much I'm considering this upgrade. If you're really ballsy you can even take a UAC20 over the regular one and run a smaller engine, though I feel that for IS the regular AC20 has advantages over the UAC, unlike with the clan weapons.
People put this exact set of weapons on an Atlas, and do just fine. Having this same amount of firepower on a 'Mech 35 tons lighter, looks very nice.
I'm running something similar to surprisingly good effect. LB20, MRM30, standard 270, bit less armour (tho max on the torsos ofc). I go a wee bit slower but the range on the LB kinda matches the MRM a bit better. Good fun - such nice hardpoints, but one has to make every shot or salvo counts...
Been running a version of this build exclusively for about a week. Right now its the only mech I wanna play, since it combines what I love most about the standard Hunchback 4G and replaces the relatively poorly placed lasers with an MRM40 that peeks as well as the AC20. Plus I love how tanky this mech is when you invest in the survivability skill tree!
5/5, So simple and effective. AC20 & MRM40 are both very high mounted and the Quirk for Missile velocity give MRM a very similar speed to AC20 (522 VS 650).
It is effective and can run just as well on the -1A, -2A, and -1C. The -2A is probably the best quirked one for this build with -cooldown for both missiles and ballistics.
What with the recent nerf to MRM missile strength I have tweaked the AC20 build a little, making it 3xSRM6 and an AC20 instead. The engine can then be upped to an LE300, giving you the speed you need to close on your quarry. Hang with the assaults, go with the push - lead It, even. I love Roughnecks.
Instead of 3 SRM6 (9 tons) I would go for 2SRM6+A & SRM4+A (11 ton). The two extra tons will give you a lot tighter SRM cluster, and the RGH has the hardpoints installed close to each other, so you are not limited by convergence scatter. You still can fit a LFE295 engine with great cooling efficiency. I don’t own the Powerhouse, so I did not test this in QP: P.S., I don’t believe MRMs are affected so bad by AMS. In this build in particular you want to close to under 300 m anyway. The number of AMSs will go back to normal soon.
I find that replacing the AC20 with a UAC10 matches up with the MRM better (range wise), and makes for quicker kills in the training grounds. I'm going to try this for a while. _
that's a fair assessment, I try to use MRMs fairly close range to counteract the spread but for overall performance in longer range games your build will be better
